said. The additional cost covers the extension of culverts at the Covington and a new bridge at the North Fork of the Thornton near Sperryville. ,
Also adding to the cost of this project are the large cuts that have been made, especially the one just west of the Covington.
Haynes Brothers also are on or ahead of schedule on most of the project, Moore said. The construction company has suggested an alternate way to complete the bridge at the Covington and their suggestions are now being reviewed by the highway department, Moore said.
This project also includes changing the grade on Route .622 leading into Gid Brown Hollow, Moore said.
Construction has yet to begin on the most significant change to that intersection. As soon as traffic can be moved onto the east bound lanes, the west bound side will be cut down to match the new grade.
When the work is completed, drivers coming out of Gid Brown Hollow and turning west towards Sperryville will not have to climb a steep grade while traffic barrels down on them.
