The School Board voted unanimously to recommend building an addition on to the elementary school and then looking at an addition to the high school at their November meeting Wednesday.
The board also adopted a proposed time plan for the expansion which calls for the elementary school addition to be ready to use by the beginning of the 1994-95 school year.
The proposed addition is estimated to cost between $1.2 and $1.3 million and to include 17 classrooms. In October a consultant from Baughan and Bauhkages architectural firm in Luray proposed a 13 classroom addition.
School Superintendent David Oangel said, “After looking at the data carefully, I found the numbers were right on the edge," implying that the extra classrooms would allow leeway for classes that are approaching the need for an extra section to add it. However, all four additional classrooms were labeled for existing special programs. In addition, two classrooms previously labeled as regular classrooms were also labeled for special programs on the diagram of the addition handed out at the board meeting.
Thirty-two rooms are labeled for regular classroom use, enough for four sections for each of the eight grades at the school. The data prepared by Baughan and Baukhages for the October meeting indicated
