Last year m a public hearing opponents strenuously attacked a proposal to solve the space problem by building a middle school, saying it was unafordable. Last spring at an elementary PTO meeting a teacher suggested building a primary school, for kindergarten through third grades, instead of a middle school. Superintendent David Gangel said the school system would explore that option. There is tto evidence that this happened. Perhaps it should. » This year an architectural consultant said additions at both schools could solve the space problems at a lower cost than building a middle school.
During the Presidential debates Ross Perot said that ^the best schools are small schools.” No statement during the debates was more true ! ban that one. Rappahannock children have benefitted enormously from attending small schools.
