dream and is willing to trade his small bankroll for a piece of that idyllic farm.
But once the farm hands return from the barley fields for lunch, the play begins to pick up steam. Dreams give way to reality, and the reality is rough. First there is trouble over Candy’s tired old dog. Then more trouble appears in the sultry shape of Curley’s wife, portrayed by Daphna Laurie.
Curley is the boss’s son, a mean, hyperactive little welterweight, ably played by Robin Day. Curley has learned in just a few weeks of marriage that he has married a tart. His wife can not keep her eyes off other men.
Like yapp.v little (logs everywhere, Curly has to pick a fight with the biggest thing around. Knowing he can not handle Slim, the rangy mule skinner played bv Dave Gilman, he wades into the hulking Lennie, who stops the fight by simply grabbing hold of Curly’s hand - and crushing it as easily as he crushes a mouse that dares to nip his finger.
When the men go off to the cat house that evening laughing at Curly’s misfortune, Lennie seeks the companionship of Crooks, the black hostler who tends the horses and mules.
