Mr. Vickers also reported on the Rappahannock Scholars program. Students who missed no more than 15 days of school last year and who were on the honor roll for the year are recognized as Rappahannock Scholars. They are eligible for discounts on various products in the school and in neighboring communities. Mr. Vickers said last year in the first year of the program 35 students qualified. This year there are 55 Rappahannock Scholars, he said.
The board voted to join others across the country in approving a resolution to “Reinvest in America” to be sent to the incoming President and Congress. Noting the end of the Cold War, the resolution urges the government to direct more of the country’s resources to “rebuild America and ensure that every child comes to school healthy and ready to learn.”
"We need all the help that we can get,” Chairman Beverly Massie said. "We don’t know if it will help at this juncture. It cannot hurt to have our names there with all the others."
Dr. Gangel said he had used funds from the RJ R/Nabiseo grant to order a mobile office for the project team.
