Upperville native Jill Waterman booted home a pair of winners, first riding Foofie, who easily upset owner-rider hurdle series leader Coman Tan in the Pageland race. One race later, her Abacus nosed out the other two ladies timber runners. Any of the three could have bested the well-matched field, but at the wire. Abacus was first, with O.J.River second and Duke Kahana Moku third.
“Abacus likes competition,” Waterman said of her timber victor, a former hurdle series champ. “He’s green [over timber], I’m green ... It’s not the best combination.” Waterman nevertheless guided both of her winners with riding confidence that belies
