Mark your calendar for <he Rappahannock County Health Fair to be held on April 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Washington Fire Hall.
Several local groups will participate, and many services will be offered for free. The Rappahannock County Health Department will be offering blood pressure and blood sugar checks, and all childhood immunizations, including the ones required to get into kindergarten. These include DTP (diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis), polio, MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) and all required infant immunizations, all at no charge.
The pneumococcal vaccine, which is the leading cause of pneumonia, will be offered to people over 65 years old. Health Dept, nurse Karen Flynn, who is organizing the health fair, said the charge for the vaccine is covered by Medicare, so those wanting it should bring their Medicare card.
Cholesterol screenings will be available for the nominal fee of $5, and results are usually available within a week.
