Replacing windows are another way to help a house look better this spring. Paul Henry of Paul Henry Window Installation Inc. said that homeowners should look for rotting wood and deteriorating glazing when evaluating their home’s windows.
He said when the glass looks like it is peeling or cracking, that is a sign that the glazing is deteriorating.
There is more to a replacement window than its looks, said Henry. Energy efficiency is a major consideration.
He explained that wndows have what is called an R-value. The value tells the consumer how well the particular window filters out the elements.
There is the Low-E window, that blocks 30 percent of ultraviolet rays. A coating on the inside of the glass does the job.
A heat mirror 66 blocks 98 percent of ultraviolet rays, said Henry.
An argon or crypton gas window uses a buffer of gas to insulate. “The insulator boosts the R rating,” said Henry.
Henry uses all vinyl windows, which require no maintenance. Clients have a choice of three different colors, white, beige or brown.
The window expert maintains that it is important to work with a good company that deals with a reputable manufacturer. Henry, who has been in the window business for 14 years, and in business for himself for 5, said that the windows he installs, for instance.
