This year marks the 25th anniversary of Earth Day, and numerous events will take place in our region to celebrate the occasion.
On Saturday, April 22, from noon until 5 p.m. Ben Venue Farm will host an Earth Day Kite Fly. This should be the beginning of a new Rappahannock tradition as kite-making, games, a silent auction, and a beautiful county location combine with local schools, organizations, and individuals in providing educational information, fellowship and fun in honor of the Earth and the wonderful place we live on it!
Some of the participants thus far include the Rappahannock Animal Welfare League, the Piedmont Environmental Council, the Rappahannock County Health Department, the Ragged Mountain Resource Center, the 4-H CCLC “Joy-Luck” Club, the elementary school PTO and Environmental Club,
Hazel Hike Set
This Saturday, April 15, the fourth in a series of hikes sponsored by the Ragged Mountain Resource Center and RLEP will take place.
The destination will be an area known by many as “The Hazel,” which includes the Hazel River headwaters and Hazel Mountain, and is bordered on the north by the White Rocks Trail.
Interested participants may meet at the Resource Center at 9:30 a.m. or park along Route 600 at the Hazel River. Participants should bring adequate food and gear for themselves, and return time will be between 3 and 4 p.m. Call 675-1879 for additional information. There may also be a full moon hike Saturday evening if there is any interest.
