scatter the seeds evenly over the soil surface. The best way is to mix the seed with sand or commeal, then sprinkle it in a straight line, first from north to south, and then from east to west. The goal is to obtain as uniform a coverage as possible. Rake the seeds in lightly, making sure not to cover them too deeply. Water in.
• Keep the site moist for the first 10 days to two weeks, until seeds germinate, then water about once a week until plants become established. Once established, most wildtlowers require little water.
• Whether you fertilize is up to you. Most experts recommend not fertilizing, since this tends to produce foliage growth at the expense of flowers. However, some people find that a light feeding with a balanced fertilizer once during the growing season helps promote better blooms.
• Once your wildtlowers have ceased blooming, usually in the fall, either yank them out or mow plants to a height of 3 to 4 inches (this helps distribute the seeds of reseeding annual plants for an encore the following spring).
