• Mirasol. This Mexican pepper cultivar is three inches and matures to a bright red. The flavor combines a hint of strawberry with a medium-hot pungency.
• Mulato Isleno. Also a Mexican cultivar, this pepper matures to a deep chocolate and has a sweet, mild flavor.
• Serrano Huasteco. This is an improved Mexican Serrano pepper with longer fruits and a rather fiery temperature.
• Red Savina Habanero. Now the hottest pepper known. Shaped like a Chinese lantern, it tips the scales at more than 350,000 Scoville units. Extremely hot, it adds rich flavor to almost any concoction.
• Sweet Emerald Bush Buttercup. This winter squash has a sweet potatolike consistency.
