COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF WASHINGTON

RESOLUTION COMMENDING FORMER MAYOR DEAN MOREHOUSE

BY UNANIMOUS VOTE OF THE COUNCIL, MARCH 8,1995

WHEREAS, Dean Morehouse served as Mayor of the Town of Washington from July 1, 1986 to June 30.1994; and

WHEREAS, as Mayor, Dean Morehouse led the Council of the Town of Washington in the design, development and construction of the first ever water treatment facility, a new well for a second, reliable water source and a new distribution system for the Washington Water Works, and

WHEREAS, this project was made possible by grant funds of $349,100 and a low-interest loan of $364,500 from the Farmers Home Loan Administration, secured for the Town through the perseverance and diligence of Mayor Morehouse and the Town Treasurer and Washington Water Works Chairman Bradford Fisher; and

WHEREAS, at the behest of Mayor Morehouse, acting in the last months of his tenure as Mayor, the Council determined to complete the renewal of the distribution system by replacing the extensions serving Town residents at the north and south ends of Main Street and the south end of Gay Street with new lines; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Morehouse immediately began the pursuit of new grant and loan funds for the completion of the water distribution system, recognizing that the project was possible only if additional Federal funding could be secured, and continued in those efforts after the end of his second term as Mayor as a volunteer for the Council; and

WHEREAS, as a result of the singular efforts of the former Mayor, the Town was awarded additional funding in the form of a grant of $75,000 and a low-interest rate loan of $75,000, for the payment in full of the completion of the upgrading of the Washington Water Works; now. therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Washington that Dean Morehouse is hereby commended for his significant, selfless, personal contribution to the residents, business owners and visitors to the Town of Washington, through his foresight in planning and his tenacious pursuit and securing of the necessary financial resources of $863,900 to ensure that we will have a dependable, economical and healthful source and supply of water for our use and enjoyment, for the present day and for the foreseeable future of this community; and be it

FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution shall be distributed to all customers fit the Washington Water Works and shall be published In THE RAPPAHANNOCK NEWS, as an expression of the gratitude of the Council of the Town of Washington for the contributions of Dean Morehouse to better the quality of life of our community.
