Sue Scheer, a candidate for the Democratic Party nomination for the 31st House of Delegates seat, told Rappahannock Democrats she can defeat Republican incumbent Jay Katzen in November because she will pick up significant Republican support.
“1 want to play a role in stopping what 1 believe is one of the most dangerous political regimes in our state’s history — the George Allen slash and bum approach to Virginia’s future,” she said. “We can play a role by defeating his unwavering and most loyal fellow-traveler, Jay Katzen.”
She said she is neither a liberal nor a conservative but “in the middle...1 am a listener and I learned a long time ago that I have a lot to learn. 1 want you to tell me what Rappahannock’s concerns are.”
She said she is a product of the public school system and supports public schools, but Del. Katzen’s proposal for charter schools “called for taking money away from the public schools and applying it to extreme, experimental charter schools, not state accredited, with teachers and administrators that were not certified. Charter schools are nothing more than private schools set up with public money with no standards required.”
She continued, “Don’t be fooled. Gov. Allen and Jay Katzen’s stand on education is dictated by the radical right, and that is very scary. We must have a Democratic majority in the House of Delegates and the Senate if we value public education.”
