The Water and Sewer Authority had a full agenda last Thursday when it considered handling the testing and reporting for the Town of Washington’s water system, approved two requests for sewer rights for new businesses on U.S. 211 west, decided to increase hours for a part-time employee to every weekend and holiday and adopted fees for reserved sewer rights for new lots.
Mayor Stewart Willis and Sperryville sewer plant manager Donna Chabot appeared to talk about what will be needed if she is to handle testing for the Washington water treatment plant. The plant has been installed and is ready to be put in service, but it must have a certified person to do testing. Mayor Willis said.
Ms. Chabot said she believes she can handle that additional duty in two hours. She said she could work from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. with system manager Troy Junkins working from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. to provide 10 hours of coverage for the plants. With the part-time employee working every weekend, they could cover both plants and both schools, she said. As an alternative she said she and Mr. Jenkins could work nine hours a day and get a three-day weekend every second week.
She said her work at the plant and schools takes “a full” six hours a day, with two hours for work for the town and another hour for incidentals, or when something goes wrong, that would make a nine-hour day, she said.
