The Piedmont Environmental Council is a 23-year-old non-profit land conservation organization serving nine counties — Fauquier, Loudoun, Clarke, Rappahannock, Culpeper, Madison, Orange, Greene and Albemarle — in the Virginia Piedmont. PEC was established in 1972 to preserve the traditional character and visual order of the country- • side, towns and villages of the northern Piedmont region of Virginia. At the same time, PEC seeks to provide for orderly economic progress sensitive to conservation of its land, water, air and other natural resources.
