State officials told the school administration they had taken proper measures, but also to add lime to the areas where sewage had been improperly discharging.
On Saturday Kenbridge Construction, contractor for the addition project, arranged to have an excavating subcontractor come to the school and dig up the line where it connects from the addition to the storm water pipe and also the sewer pipe.
School Superintendent David Gangel said the storm water pipe did not show on drawings available to the contractor. However, it was about 10 feet farther from the main section of the school, it was much larger than the sewer line, and, of course, it shouldn’t have smelled like sewage. The connection was made while school was out last summer, but the school and its bathrooms are used to some extent all year long.
There was some concern that there might not be enough drop for the gravity sewer line, but on Monday the school system was given the green light to connect the sewer line from the addition to the main sewer line.
On Tuesday the lines were connected and only finish work remained, Mr. Smith told the School Board Tuesday night.
