Starting July 1 the Virginia Board for Contractors will become responsible for the management of the Tradesman Certification Program.
This is a statewide program in
which plumbers, electricians and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) tradesmen, and gas-fitters within the trades of plumbing and HVAC, are required to meet established entry standards prior to being permitted to work for the public in those trades.
This program will be mandatory' for tradesmen working in the Commonwealth. Helpers and assistants who work for tradesmen who are certified are not required to be certified. This is a significant change from the present administration of the program.
Currently, tradesmen in some of Virginia’s counties and cities, including Rappahannock County, must have master or journeyman certifications to perform their work. These certifications have in the past been issued
