Wakefield education, he said, is a “commitment to leadership and lifelong excellence.”

He said one role of private schools is to offer flexibility, good student-teacher ratios and a broadened teacher pool. “There is no such thing as a value-free education,” he said, adding the education at Wakefield is based on “religious and moral principals and gentlemanly conduct.”

He urged the graduates to be committed to service to others, to be true to themselves and have courage to withstand pressures and “choose the right side even if it may not be the ‘correct’ one”

Welby Lynn recounted memories of the school that date back to her earliest ‘consciousness. She told of visiting the school as a toddler with her father and watching him kneel beside small children to listen to them and treat them with respect. “The lessons in life should be as dear as any facts we have learned,” she said. She said she owed the school and her parents "all my successes. From you 1 have learned excellence.”
