Each outfit, she explained, is individually handcrafted in fabrics and trims evocative of the period it represents. She has written a book entitled “The Clothes That Children Wore,” an illustrated history of costume for young people. In it, she tells and illustrates what children wore in 1774, 1854, 1904 and 1944.
Richardson said she is a consultant to small house museums, historic preservation groups, and needlework guilds. She said she worked on various historic preservation projects, including the research and interior design of Woodlawn Farm in St. Mary’s County, Md. which won the grand prize for historic preservation from the National Trust in 1990.
Also on display in Richardson’s booth will be custom crafted trunks, chests, beds and storage boxes which can be used for doll beds, doll carryalls, doll chests or, as Richardson said, as hobby chests for people like herself w ho do needlework.
