School Starts^ Monday will be the first day of school for the county public schools. Motorists are asked to watch out for school buses. Book day for the schools will be held from 1-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. this Thursday, Aug. 24. Parents may pick up students’ books and meet teachers at that time.
Farm Disaster Meeting Virginia Cooperative Extension, the Virginia Farm Bureau and Farm Credit will hold a Farm Disaster Education Meeting from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. next Tuesday, Aug. 29, at Graves Mountain Lodge in Syria. Topics^ covered include Reclamation of Damaged Cropland, Managing Damaged Crops, USDA Assistance Programs and Filing Disaster Claims with the IRS. The Farm Bureau will provide lunch. To register call the Madison County Extension Office at (540) 948-6881. The program is limited to 120 participants.
