Also in the deli are fresh bacon, meats and cheeses by the pound, and fresh vegetables and fruits. Last Friday they offered potatoes, onions, squashes, banana peppers, celery, carrots, lemons and oranges.
The freezers are stocked with a good supply of meats — hamburger, T-bone, rib and sirloin steaks.
Mrs. Fannon says that a big group always shows up on Sunday morning around 8 a.m., come rain, snow or whatever. It is nearly all men, and they stay about two hours, discussing the news in the Washington Post. “It started when the Washington Post would not deliver beyond the store,” said Mrs. Fannon.
It does get delivered now, but the group still gathers on Sundays, and many have become the best of friends, she said.
