Commissioner of Revenug' Beverly Atkins and Treasurer Frances* Foster spoke briefly and thanked people for their support.
Peter Luke explained his jobs as Commonwealth’s Attorney and County Attorney. Unfortunately, he said, there has been an increase in the criminal docket in the courts.
As county attorney, which is not an elected position, Mr. Luke serves the Board of Supervisors and the constitutional officers of the county.
Diane Bruce, Clerk of the Circuit Court, will not be running until 1999, but asked for peoples’ support in that election.
Following these presentations there was a short break for refreshments followed by questions directed a' particular candidates and their answers.
One questioner asked the five candidates for supervisor how committed they are to keeping Rappahannock County rural and a lid on development.
All said they support this goal. They expressed disagreement on how successful controls have been.
