They took no action on that recommendation, but Dr. Krebser suggested they try to find out if Chester Gap had sufficientWater. He suggested homeowners be asked how' deep their wells are and if they have had problems with the wells going dry or water pressure dropping.

Mr. Junk said such a study should be done in Sperryville also. He said recently wells being dug in Sperryville were going as deep as 1,000 feet and finding as little ds half a pint of water a minute. “You can’t put 50 houses up with no water,” he said, referring to the proposed development on the Miller property.

Dr. Krebser said, “1 suggest they build a lake on the Miller property. It would be a beautiful spot for a lake.”

The planners decided to delay starting the public forums on issues to be discussed with the public for the Comprehensive Plan. The first one, scheduled for October, is to be on agriculture, tourism and business. Others in future months will cover the village concept and by-passes, educational and recreational needs, and protecting natural resources.

Kathleen Maier asked the planners to support an effort to develop a native plant demonstration project in the median strip of U.S. 522-21 1 around Washington. She said if mowing is reduced many native plant species will reseed themselves. She said volunteer help is available to monitor and maintain such a plot.
