Rappahannock Monarchs, tied at two wins each in the finals, go at each other with the gusto of McNeeley, the power of Tyson, and the hunger of Don King sitting down to a meal of money.
You were treated to a game in which there were only two errors, but both were extremely costly run-producing errors. You saw some outstanding defensive plays. The best of which was when Monarchs’ shortstop, Brian Hackley, went deep in the hole to rob Edinburg’s Barry' Omdorff of a single. Later in the game, Monarchs’ centerfielder, Bill Atkins, robbed Orndorff of another single with a diving catch of a sinking line drive.
Additionally you saw the two best pitchers in the league. The mythical Mike Siers (9-0 in the regular season) made his first playoff appearance for Edinburg. Siers squared off against Monarch’s ace Luther Alexander (6-0 regular season) for the first time this year.
Finally, you saw a dramatic come from behind rally by the Monarchs, who trailed 4-2 entering the bottom of the ninth, but scored three runs to win 5-4.
