Alexander pitched a better game than Siers, but Edinburg was more able to capitalize on their limited opportunities. Alexander went seven and two-thirds innings, gave up six hits, three runs, struck out three and did not w'alk a batter.
The Monarchs jumped on the board in the second. Bob Howard doubled, moved to third on a single by Atkins, and score on a ground out by Festus Clanagan. Edinburg tied the score with a run in the fourth. In the top of the seventh, Edinburg got backto-back doubles, a ground out and a sacrifice fly to take a 3-1 led.
In the bottom of the seventh, Monarchs’ MVP Vincent Aylor tripled to the fence in left and scored on a passed ball to cut the Edinburg lead to one run.
