M.B. Stuart

Mrs. May Belle Stuart, 84, of Amissville died Aug. 16 at the Virginia Baptist Retirement Community in Culpeper.

Mrs. Stuart was born Feb. 3, 191 1, in Mt. Airy, N.C. and was raised and educated in Maryland.

After receiving registered nurse training at West Baltimore General Hospital, Mrs. Stuart did private duty nursing and served as head nurse at the Aigburth Manor Hospital, Towson, Md.

At the beginning of World War II, she enlisted in the Navy Nurse Corps, serving at Bethesda Naval Hospital and in the South Pacific. She was assigned to the Naval Hospital in Annapolis, Md.

Her next tour of duty was aboard the naval transport ship, USS President Jackson, where she met her future husband. Captain Luther B. Stuart.

Her last assignment was at Bethesda Naval Hospital.

She married Captain Luther B. Stuart in 1949. After their retirement from the Navy, the Stuarts moved to Amissville.
