Last Monday was the beginning of practice and try-outs for this year's fall sports season at Rappahannock County High School.
From eight to ten that morning eighth, ninth, and tenth grade girls hoping to be on this year’s junior varsity girls’ basketball team attended try-outs. The 15 girls will be coached by Emily Wingate.
After that, the varsity team, coached by Laura Conklin, practiced for two hours. Ten girls from the junior and senior classes participated.
Several camps were held this summer in preparation for the girls basketball season. One, which was open to all high school girls in the county, was held in the RCHS gym.
Another was held at James Madison University. This was open only to those intending to be on the team this year.
Later Monday evening eight girls and nine boys attended cross country practice. The team is coached by David Van de Graaff and Laura Snyder.
