Since then private land that had been used for camping has been posted no trespassing, so those accustomed to using that land for camping will have to make other arrangements, a park spokesman said. Permits for back country camping are issued at the park entrances and can be issued at the Old Rag trailhead, but camping space is limited on the mountain.
On weekends hiking permits will be sold by rangers stationed at the parking lot. During the week hikers are expected to register themselves at the trailhead and deposit the S3 fee in a locked box.
The funds collected from the fee, like those collected at the entrances to the Skyline Drive, go directly into the U.S. Treasury. Funds are separately appropriated for the national parks.
