“We have found that a large part of our day is spent coordinating ' patient care as well,” explained Kilby. “We work closely with many organizations such as the American Cancer Society, Family Care Home Health and Hospice, Hospice of the Rapidan, and other hospitals to facilitate our patients’ care.”
Providing information about cancer and educations materials is another focus of the department. “Our hospital employees find our presence comforting when loved ones are diagnosed with cancer. We are able to provide them with educational materials to help answer many of their questions,” added Kilby.
Under the direction of Vicki Krohn, RN, the department is staffed by Kilby and Dee Dee Stergis, RN, OCN. The department is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For emergencies, ther6 is a nurse on call on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For information call 829-4352.
