After six months’ operation, the Oncology Department at Culpeper Memorial Hospital has helped 420 patients. Over 85 patients are being seen monthly.
“We are very pleased that this program has been able to reach so many patients and make their lives a little easier,” said Jonita Kilby, RN, BSN. “We have found the community response to be quite positive. Often our oncology patients comment on how thankful they are for this department. Transportation and travel times have been major considerations for these patients in the past. With vision, planning, commitment and a cooperative spirit we have turned a dream into reality.”
Oncologists from the University of Virginia and from Martha Jefferson Hospital see patients in the department. Chemotherapy, IV antibiotics, and blood transfusions are administered.
