If nothing else, TV-Tumoff Week at the end of April seemed to spark a lot of talk.
There were teachers who argued that TV-Tumoff Week was ill-conceived, because television can do as much good as harm. Instead of asking people to stop watching, we should be suggesting that people be more selective in what they watch, said one teacher.
Conversely, there were teachers who encouraged their students to write essays and to draw posters for the TV-Tumoff contests and who otherwise fully supported the notion of unplugging the tube for the week.
