Preparations for the Rappahannock High School First Annual May Fest are in full and enthusiastic swing. Teachers and students are assembling projects and displays from their work throughout the year, or creating presentations to make this Friday’s event a festive and fun-filled day.
The day will kick off with an assembly featuring presentations by French students, 8th grade English students, and students in the Show Choir.
Sharon Wyrrick, who is Artist-inResidence at RCHS this year, has worked with Cindy Wayland’s French 2 class since January adapting a French-Afritan tale “La Cruche” (The Jug) into a playlet form. The process has involved an extended collaboration with Harriette Rosenblatt’s art classes. The art classes have created delightful visuals that include mural backdrops and paper mache figures for the characters. Ms. Wyrrick said, “most of the cast has never even acted on stage before, nor had the art students created stage scenery and visuals before, so this challenge is enormous. I applaud all the students who have worked so diligently in creating the stage presentation.”
