I feel I must respond to Ron Makela’s letter of April 24th in the Rappahannock News.
Mr. Makela stated that 1 made “a strong but non-specific objection” to the Goals 2000 legislation when in fact I made several objections to it. Chiefly among them was that we need less federal government involvement in our school system, and that the $4.30 per student Rappahannock County might receive does not pay for the burdens it will place on our county- tyIf
we look at the events in chronological order it will help us get a better picture of the actions of the School Board and administration. During the last session of the General Assembly, the Democrats pushed through a budget plan that had language forcing Gov. Allen to seek Goais 2000 funding if two-thirds of the school boards of the state petitioned him to do so.
