Built in 1778, Willow Grove is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been designated a Virginia Historic Landmark. The exterior is an impressive example of Jefferson’s classical revival style while the interior retains federal simplicity. The mansion has withstood the ravages of the Revolution and the Civil War. Trenches and breastworks are visible near the mansion, and a cannonball was recently removed from the eaves.
Nestled on 37 acres in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Willow Grove has been carefully preserved to retain its elegance and hospitality. The mansion is furnished with American and English antiques from the 18th and 19th centuries. Formal gardens contain English boxwood, spring bulbs, and peonies that remain from the Victorian period. Old shade trees and antebellum dependencies dot the sloping lawns.
A working farm for over 200 years, Willow Grove was transformed by Angela Mulloy, a professional writer apd designer, into a country inn
