Benefit Garden Party Planned
A garden party concert to benefit the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community will be held on Saturday, May 11.'
Cocktails and light buffet will be'served from 5 until 6:30 p.m. with a concert by Tom Espinola and Lorraine Duisit from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Coffee and dessert will also be served. There is a $25 per person charge. The event will be held courtesy of Col. and Mrs. Stewart Willis at their home, Mount Prospect Farm. Rain date is set for Saturday, May 18. For reservations call 675-3193 during office hours.
Sperryville Plans Carnival
Members of the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor their annual carnival this year, May 29, 30, 31 and June 1. Special rates will apply for the rides on Wednesday evening, a parade will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday and grand prizes will be awarded on Saturday evening.
Prizes will include the grand prize of $500, first, second and third prizes of $100 each will be awarded to a lucky winner. All members of the community and county residents are urged to support the fire department in their endeavors.

“A Mountains’ Jfourney” is the theme for the 1996 Regional Governor’s School, Summer Quest! Classes offerings include Smart Art (art), The Hills are Alive (science), Once Upon a Time (social sciences), Surrounding Sounds (music), Blue Ridge Brain-Reasers (math), and Writers’ World (Language Arts).
This program, sponsored jointly by Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, and Rappahannock Counties and the Virginia Department of Education, is designed for identified gifted learners currently enrolled in grades 5,6, and 7, and will be held at Rappahannock County High School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, July 29 to August 9. There is no cost for this school.
Applications are available from Helen Williams at the School Board Office 987-8773 and must be received by May 6.
Registration Underway
The Rappahannock Athletic Association (RAA) is now accepting registrations for the Senior Babe Ruth League, ages 16-18. For additional information or registration, contact Richard Pentecost at 937-5975.
RCHS Athletic Banquet
On May 29 at 6 p.m. the Rappahannock High School Athletic Department will hold its annual Athletic Banquet in the RCHS Commons Area and Gymnasium.
Tickets will go on sale Monday, May 13 and can be purchased in the office at the high school. All tickets must be purchased in advance.
