The homes will be built tightly together, as many as seven to an acre. And no house will be farther than a quarter mile from the town center. The streets will be narrow to encourage walking.
At build-out, Haymount would be four to five times as large as any of the nearby towns along the Rappahannock.
Clark bought the land in 1989 and had hoped to have people living at Haymount now, but strong opposition from preservationists surfaced with his request to rezone the land.
Ultimately, the County Board of Supervisors approved Haymount on a 3-2 vote, overriding a Planning Commission vote of 4-2 against the rezoning.
