His whole family — wife Karen and three sons, attended the marathon to photograph him and keep up with his progress by driving to different vantage points along the race course. Though there are water stops along the course, they also provided him with extra water because he said he can become easily dehydrated.
Mr. Ramey cross-trained for the marathon; he is primarily a biathlete, a sport which combines running and bicycling. He believes that by combining the two sports, injuries are reduced and the athlete stays more interested. For the marathon, however, he began training in November and ran 440 miles in preparation for the race.
He participates in races associated with the Tri-Athlantic Biathlon which take place in this part of the country. A typical race would consist of a 3- mile run, a 25-mile bike ride, followed by another 3-mile run. Last year he participated in 11 biathlons.
On Aug. 24 he will compete in a biathlon in Culpeper which is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. a Sports are a big part of the Ramey family. All three sons — Daniel, 15,
