At the school board meeting on March 11, Dr. Gangel said that everything in the budget is focussed toward student performance. He said he agrees with the governor raising the standards (by requiring more testing) but that we would be fooling ourselves if we thought it would not cost money.
Board member Bryant Lee said that the schools need a lot but that we must keep in mind that the taxpayers will have to foot the bill.
Several new budget priorities were discussed, and many of them are legal requirements to fulfill current and new standards of accreditation (SOA) and special ed requirements.
The increase to fulfill a current SOA legal requirement is $6,522.51 for a part-time guidance counselor at RCES.
