The program, which is funded by the Virginia Pesticide Control Board, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Virginia Department of conservation and Recreation, is free to participants.
Earlier disposal projects eliminated nearly 517,000 pounds of pesticides in 63 localities. Dan Schweitzer, project coordinator, estimates this year’s project will dispose of more than 30,000 pounds of pesticides — including DDT, lead arsenate, dieldrin, and 2,4,5-T.
