Helen Williams, Director of Pupil Personnel, discussed special education projections regarding kids that will be going from the elementary school to the high school next year. She said a new classroom will be needed at the high school, as eight children are expected to be moving to a self-contained classroom at the high school in the fall. Students in a self-contained classroom spend 50 percent or more of their classroom time in special education and can have a maximum of eight students per teacher (or 10 students if they also have an aide).
However, it has been the superintendent’s policy to not hire a special ed teacher until they are sure that the students will be attending.
