“We heard over and over again a need to protect these mountains,” said Rappahannock Planning Commission Chair Sharon Pierce. “At least three years ago we started on these regulations and have carefully researched this proposal. We have tried to do what is fair and legal. If the mountains go, so goes the county.”
Mrs. Pierce was referring to the proposed amendments to the Erosion and Sediment Control Law concerning Conservation Zoning District regulations. The scene was the public hearing on those regulations held at the courthouse last week.
Woodville resident Bob Darby spoke first. “I don’t understand the need for these restrictions. I don’t think for example that there needs to be a 25 foot setback on a driveway. I’d like to know the estimated cost in preparing this plan and see details on it. I care as much as anyone in this room but I support the ordinance as it stands. I’m afraid of imposing more restrictions. We could end up in court.”
