What Should Be Done?
! Clearly the majority of county residents believe the county should be preserved and protected. Just how that is to be accomplished, at least as far as development in the county is concerned, is pot clear at all. ! ' Last week the Rappahannock Planning Commission met to hear public comment on the proposed changes to the Erosion and Sediment Control Law. The majority of those who spoke at last week’s meeting were opposed to the idea of further restrictions on Zoning laws. ; This was not the case at all at the April meeting, at which the hiajority of comments were favorable. i The Planning Commission has worked for three years to develop their proposal (about an issue that is as old as the hills in question), yet some residents behaved as if it is a new concept. The Commissioners will now go back to the table and try to further tefind their proposal and then seek further public comment. , The question then is, what should be done to preserve the county hnd how? ! Perhaps some of the knowledgeable people who spoke so eloquently at last week’s meeting can offer some other suggestions to the Planning Commission members or at least their district representative. They would then go armed to their work session and possibly come up with a proposal that at least the bulk of county residents could live with.
