The first most obvious is to seek the Republican nomination for Senate in 2000. Election to the U.S. Senate would put him in a strong position for a future run for national office.
He might try to put himself in line for the vice presidential nomination in 2000 and I have no doubt he would make a very attractive candidate in that capacity. But realistically speaking since he holds no current office there is little chance of that happening.
A third option would be to continue to make those really big bucks at McGuire Woods, etc. and while it certainly isn’t an unattractive option, it’s not one Allen is likely to take.
