centineial celebration to show European art in the year 1200 A.D.; and the 1991 exhibition mounted by the National Gallery and others displaying art from much of the world, called “Circa 1492”. Like those undertakings, Reston’s work helps us to see our past in a new, enlightened way.
Many groups around the country are now asking Reston to speak on the subject of the millennium. He has also been consulted by the White House to advise on what official recognition should be accorded the second millennium when it occurs. A copy of The Last Apocalypse is at the library for loan. Reston is familiar with Rappahannock and feels at home here because his family has had a country home in Hume, “Fiery Run” for more than a generation.
His visit will be the final program sponsored by the Library’s Program Committee for this season, but other groups will be scheduling events in May.
