Virginia knows how to celebrate its delicious food. From chicken to chili, pork to peaches, shad to strawberries, food lovers have created festivals starring these specialities of the state. Now, with an assist from the latest edition of the Virginia Food Festival Directory, you can follow your nose and your tastebuds to some of the state’s premiere eating opportunities.
The directory, just published by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, lists the feasts and festive occasions by month so you can plan ahead for the Highland Whitetop Mountain Maple Festivals, the Virginia Pork Festival, the Chincoteagpe Island Oyster Festival or more than 60 others that offer food, fun and Virginia hospitality. There are enough events to fill evey weekend from no^v through October as you sip and snack your way across the state.
For those who want to sample the unusual, the directory presents some wonderful opportunities, such as the Mt. Rogers Ramp Festival in May, the ninth annual Bayou Boogaloo and Cajun Food Festival in June, Brinkfest in August, and the Virginia Garlic Festival in October.
There are also events which highlight traditional Virginia products.
