She is retired in 1996 as a Public Affairs Officer and newspaper editor at the Defense Mapping Agency, Bethesda, Md. (agency has since become the National Imagery and Mapping Agency). She was the recipient of the George Washington Medal from the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge.
Mrs. Gonchar is married to Donald J. Gonchar and the mother of two daughters and two grandchildren.
Her term as Virginia State Regent will begin in April 1998 after installation ceremonies at the National Continental Congress of NSDAR in Washington, D.C.
