The clinic stocks and distributes numerous health, safety and parenting brochures. “I see more kids at a younger age smoking or chewing snuff,” observed Beach. “Unless we do a lot of prevention and education, I see a lot of heart problems coming back.”
On any given day, Beach and Freeman see almost as many patients as the Madison county clinic which has twice the staff and about twice the budget. Beach estimates that she sees five or six home health patients, plus, at various times during the month, clinic walkins, well baby checkups, family planning counseling, new mothers, and mothers participating in the USDA Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutritional program. “We also do a lot of cardiac home care — hook them up with support systems” in other organizations.
