that the report from Resources. International, would be available in two or three more months. The company is preparing an evaluation of wastewater management technologies suitable for the town. Parking Committee chairman Skowronski reported that his three-person team would “split the town into sections and evaluate the available parking.” Skowronski asked Bob Moore, VDOT district engineer, to provide information concerning what VDOT considers a qualified parking space. Reynolds suggested that the committee review the special use permits issued recently to see how many spaces each business is required to have and do a comparison. Skowronski agreed, saying that the “people who will be doing the inventory of parking spaces will have maps” of the town and they will draw in the spaces available.
Visioning workshops
Mayor Stew Willis received a proposal and cost estimate from Milton Herd for additional services “which would allow (Herd) to assist the town in completing a Comprehensive Plan.” Van Dort proposed that the council “engage him for the town meetings. It is important to have an unbiased person.” Councilman Steve Critzer and Gooch also supported having Herd continue with two additional visioning sessions.
Said Gooch, “We’ve never had a professional planner. (During the next four years, the planning process will be) “as important as at any time in the history of the town.” Willis wanted a recommendation from the Planning Commission. Tompkins added that he “liked what (Gooch) had to say. We are going into an election where a new council will be sitting. I’m curious, too, about how the Planning Commission feels about this whole process.”
