Twenty six people attended the first meeting. The results of the survey were discussed and the main ideas that resulted from it. They found that most people would like to see a telephone tree of some sort for keeping in touch with elderly residents.
They also talked about initiating a File for Life, which is a card distributed in many communities throughout the country which carries a person’s emergency medical information on it. Any time a fire or rescue person responds to a call for help the information is there, usually displayed in a prominent place so that if the person is unable to communicate with them they will know that person’s pertinent medical information.
McNear said they only cost about 52 cents each but provide a wealth of valuable, sometimes lifesaving information.
Another idea discussed was for neighborhood watches, but in many areas of the county that may not be possible.
