Each tiny flower has both stamens and pistils, they ripen at different times making cross-pollination a certainty. Since these early bees are only active when the sun is out, the pink flowers only open when there is warmth from the sun and the bees are out and about their business. On a day of mixed sun and shade, they may open and close a number of times.
Rue anemone, the dusky pink “wind flower,” is blooming in the woods. The Reu in its common name refers to the resemblance of the leaves to the herb of that name. “Anemos” was a Greek god of the wind.
